Seeking Peace – Art Exhibition

In these turbulent times, with wars in Ukraine and Gaza, climate and environmental crises, rampant consumerism and greed, it is good to sit back and contemplate what we want out of life. I believe most of us seek peace, both in ourselves and in the wider world. We need to be kind to ourselves and care for each other. Small things make a difference. If enough people do small things for others this creates a community with authority and impetus to influence the big decisions and have even greater impact.

Manor Street Galleries is a newly developed space behind Café Momus in Plymouth, formerly The Old Morgue. It is very atmospheric with flag-stone floor and a high ceiling, a bar and stage for performance work. You can get good food and coffee in the cafe. Thank you Andrew for making us so welcome!

I am showing a series of woodcuts and screen-prints reflecting on loss and grieving, and images of feathers which I feel symbolise hope, love and protection.

A large charcoal drawing resulted from sketches looking down to the beach from the cliff-top, with that vertiginous, unsettled feeling one gets in such a situation. The world seems spinning out of control… This is juxtaposed with a bodily tangle of black plastic mesh reminiscent of skeletons.

The very talented Jane Athron created a series of powerful oil paintings depicting the horrors of war with reference to Chagall and Picasso.
